The Crown-of-Thorns is a unique looking houseplant. Its stems are covered in sharp spikes. The Crown-of-Thorns has oval-shaped green leaves. This plant also produces flowers. Flowers come in different shapes and sizes, and colors of red, pink, salmon, and whites depending on the variety.

Process :

 

  1. Select a sunny, well-drained planting site for crown-of-thorns. This plant will tolerate a few hours of shade during the hottest part of the day but does require sunshine for at least two-thirds of the day. 
  2. Carefully remove the plant from its container and inspect the roots. 
  3. Backfill around the roots with soil, pressing firmly with your hands to remove air pockets. 
  4. Water around the base of the plant to settle the soil, keep water off the foliage.
  5. Water newly planted crown-of-thorns plants often enough to keep the soil slightly moist. 
  6. Use an inorganic mulch, if desired, such as gravel or stones. 
  7. Prune away any broken, shrivelled or mushy roots, then gently loosen the soil around the outside of the root ball with your fingers.

Do's

  1. Cut any of the rotted branches back to a point where you find clean healthy growth.

  1. Crown of thorns is toxic if eaten and the sap causes skin irritations in some people.
  2. Wear gloves when working with this plant, and place it out of the reach of children and animals.
